In a large retrospective exhibition at Österängen's arthall in Jönköping, Carl Johan Erikson shows for the very first time the combined results of 25 years of artistic exploration of the innermost corners of the Swedish revival movement.
The exhibition Jerusalemmodellen, skala 1:800 och andra arbeten focuses on Carl Johan Erikson's artistic investigations of the Swedish revival movement. Here, religious beliefs are confronted with contemporary politics and Erikson's own background/identity. At the same time, an important part of Swedish local history is problematized - especially present in Jönköping, long known as the "Jerusalem of Småland".
The camera has been an important instrument for Erikson in trying to understand the world he grew up in and which has shaped him and many others. The exhibition can be seen as an attempt to preserve and remember an era that is now gone. At the same time, this movement still largely characterizes contemporary Swedish and international politics - e.g several Swedish politicians background in various independent churches and internationally the evangelical movement is conquering new ground.
